    Robert was the son of Henry A. and Elizabeth A. Jones Cooper and the husband of Mamie Eugenia Machen Cooper. He was a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives during the years 1900-1904. He went on to serve as Governor of South Carolina during the years of 1918-1922 and served on the Federal Farm Loan Board from 1922-1927.
